  1. Practice building inspection in accordance with integrity, honesty, company best practices and the law.

  2. Maintain client confidentiality.

  3. Not act for, or accept payment from more than one party in connection with the subject property unless fully disclosed to and approved by all parties.

  4. Remain independent of any other business or personal interests which might bias the quality of the service provided. In particular:

    a. An inspector shall not repair for a fee any condition found during an inspection, nor use the inspection as a vehicle to obtain work in any related field.

    b. An inspector shall not be involved in any other aspect of a real estate transaction related to the property being inspected.

    c. An inspector who provides public sector inspection services may not inspect a property within a jurisdiction where they have public sector authority or responsibility that could affect the subject property.

  5. Promptly disclose to the client any relationship to the property or another interested party, which might bias the inspectors findings.

  6. Not solicit, accept or offer referral fees.

  7. Refer trades-people or other specialists only when doing so is in the best interest of the client, and does not detract from the inspector's impartiality.

  8. Only provide an opinion on conditions and matters within the scope of the inspector's expertise, education, experience, and profession.

  9. Not comment on the work of another inspector without reviewing the inspection report and discussing the observations with the inspector.

  10. Act in good faith towards each client, the public, and members of this and other professions. Uphold the integrity and reputation of the profession, respond promptly and cooperate in the resolution of any complaints or questions.

  11. Conform to the codes of ethics of all professional associations of which the inspector is a member.
